HOW TO HAVE A CLEAN APARTMENT:
1. Have the right supplies
It’s so important to have the right supplies when it comes to keeping your apartment clean!
You don’t need much; you just need the right products.
Here are some of my favorite cleaning products that I use all the time to keep my apartment clean.
ALL-PURPOSE:
Here are a few all-purpose must-haves that you’ll be able to use in any area of your apartment to keep it clean.
KITCHEN:
There isn’t much that you need for the kitchen since you can use most of the all-purpose items on your counters and even your stove. But it’s always a good idea to have a solid oven cleaner on hand, as well as some heavy duty sponge options to make washing dishes super easy and manageable.
BATHROOM:
Obviously, your bathroom is where you might need a few more specific items. Having a good bathroom cleaner, toilet cleaner, glass cleaner, and drain de-clogger is essential to keeping your bathroom in the best shape possible.
FLOORS:
Having some good products on hand to keep your floor clean is also key. It’s surprising how gross floors can get if you let them! Between the crumbs, hair, and dust it can quickly become a messy situation ?
The floor cleaners below are great examples of cleaners where a little goes a long way!
2. Do a 5-minute clean each night
Taking 5 minutes before you go to bed to fold some laundry, declutter a table, or wipe down the counters seriously makes all the difference in the long run.
You’d be surprised what a simple 5-minute clean at the end of each day can accomplish!
3. Do the dishes right away
This is one that everyone needs to work at, if we’re being honest.
If you’re rolling your eyes because dishes aren’t your favorite thing to do, I would say that’s all the more reason to just do them right away.
You’d be surprised how quickly you can get them done, and then it’s one less thing for you to worry about later. The more you let them pile up, the less you’ll want to get it done!
4. Smell is everything
Smell. Is. EVERYTHING!
The biggest sign of someone having a clean apartment is how it smells. If your apartment truly is clean, it will smell clean…. But there are some hacks you can use to get it to smell even better.
Try this apartment smell hack. It takes just a few minutes to put together and will keep your apartment smelling fresh for hours!
Always make sure to keep some candles on hand, and air fresheners like this that will have guests complimenting the smell in your apartment.
5. Donate or sell once a year
It feels so good to go through your stuff and just get rid of stuff you don’t need.
I know it’s a hassle, but if you’re living in a small apartment, you could use the space (I know that because I’m in that boat!!).
So, just rip the bandage off and donate or sell things you don’t wear or use frequently.
This is also an opportunity to make a bit of extra cash!!
6. Learn the art of cleaning as you cook
Multitasking is usually considered unproductive, but when it comes to cleaning while you cook, it’s actually genius.
It does take a bit of practice, but if you can get in the habit of cleaning a little bit while you cook, cleaning will feel like a way more manageable task.
Even if it’s as simple as washing a pot as soon as you’re done with it, or unloading the dishwasher, it’s one less thing to do when you’re done eating!
7. Wash linens weekly
This is such an underrated tip that is a total game-changer.
You’d be surprised how much of a difference it makes to wash linens frequently. Your house will smell better if you’ve always got fresh linens. Plus, you’ll feel better and you won’t have as much laundry piling up.
8. Use an organized hamper
Using a hamper that is already set-up so you can divide your clothes for the washing is so helpful.
Not only is it one less thing to do later, but it’s also helpful to have it divided in that way because it means your hamper won’t be overflowing before you know it, and it makes doing laundry a lot more manageable.
9. Have a (loose) plan
Always have a plan about what you’re going to clean when.
Even if it’s as simple as planning to clean a different room in the apartment every week, this will seriously make all the difference in ensuring it gets done. But having some sort of game plan on how you’re going to tackle your cleaning will make all the difference!
10. Schedule a cleaning hour every week
Most people can’t schedule a whole day just for cleaning and the truth is that for an apartment, you probably don’t need to, anyways.
Even an hour on a Sunday evening will give you enough time to do a bit of a deeper clean than normal and set up your week for success.
Which of these tips are you using to keep your space tidy?
