TRENDIEST DORM ROOM DECORATIONS IN 2021:
1. Cafe lights
Fairy lights are still cool, but cafe lights are the new trend.
And for good reason! Having cafe lights like this will give you a warmer option for when you get tired of the dull dorm room lighting. Even when they’re off, they still look super good.
Perfect dorm room decor option for guys OR girls!!
If I was moving into a dorm room in 2021, I would definitely get these.
2. Temporary wallpaper
Peel & stick wallpaper is something I’ve seen people start using a lot in the last couple years.
It’s such an easy way to personalize your dorm room walls, and so quick to put up!

3. Rustic or boho rug
Fuzzy rugs look outdated and teen-ish to most people… rustic and boho is where it’s at.
If you don’t like the rustic/boho vibe, you can totally opt for a nice cotton rug like this, which basically will go with any look you’re going for!
4. Ceiling greenery
This is one of the best dorm room decoration ideas because it takes up NO space but looks so good.
Simply grab some of these eucalyptus or ivy vines and hang them across your ceiling.
If you want, you can pair them with cafe lights or simple fairy lights as well! This is one of the easiest and cheapest dorm room decorations Amazon has to offer.
5. Ladder mirror
When first I saw this, I quickly became obsessed.
This ladder mirror is amazing because it gives you extra space to hang stuff that you want to keep in a place that’s easy to grab.
If your dorm room already comes with a mirror (some do, so definitely check first), you can just opt to get a simple blanket ladder instead. Same concept, just without the mirror attached!

6. Have a canopy (without breaking the rules!!)
This is such an easy and pretty hack, and will also give you some more privacy if you have a roommate.
Just grab some command hooks and some curtains and hang up the curtains by attaching each corner to a command hook.
Taa-daaa! A DIY canopy!!
7. Plants!!
Who doesn’t love plants?
If you’re anything like me, you might suck at keeping plants alive. But there are low-maintenance ones you can get that will be great to have, even if your dorm doesn’t get much sunlight (or you’re simply just too busy to bother taking care of it all the time).
Don’t want to take up desk space? Hang a plant with a command hook!
8. Branch & fishing line hanger
I love this not only because of how cute it is, but how CHEAP!!!
Grab any nice-looking branch and use some fishing line to hang it off the wall. Then, it can easily be used as a jewelry hanger or a place to put your keys!!
9. Gallery wall
Gallery walls are not just in style for dorm rooms in 2021, but also in style for home decor in general. I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen SO MANY Instagram influencers documenting how they’re creating their gallery walls.
I wrote a whole post on dorm room wall decor that has tons of great ideas for gallery walls, so check that out here:
10. Use curtains to hide your clutter
If you have an open closet or cubbies with a bunch of stuff in them and no doors to shut, hanging curtains over that space is a great way to make your dorm room look way more elegant and organized.
Simple curtains like this and a pressure rod are all you need, and you can hang them up in less than 5 minutes!
